Stimming
Short for self-stimulatory behaviour: repeated movements or sounds such as hand-flapping, rocking, humming or spinning objects. Many autistic children, and some others, stim to calm themselves, concentrate or show excitement. Stimming that causes no harm rarely needs stopping; if it hurts the child or blocks learning, ask their occupational therapist or psychologist.
