What a shadow teacher does
A shadow teacher, sometimes called a learning-support assistant or one-to-one aide, supports a child with additional needs inside the classroom: helping them follow instructions, stay regulated, take part, and keep up, without doing the work for them.
Ours are trained educators with documented experience of children with additional needs, briefed on the child before day one, and reviewed with the school and the family at one week, thirty days and ninety days. They keep a short daily record that the family, the school and the child's therapists can all read.
What's included
Everything a placement needs.

With the school, not around it.
A child-support profile
Written with you, and with the school and clinicians if you wish. Every candidate is matched against it.
The school conversation
We meet the inclusion coordinator and settle how the shadow teacher will work in the classroom.
A verified shortlist
Two or three candidates, qualifications confirmed and references spoken to.
A daily record
A short note the family, the school and the therapists can all read.

Schools
With the school, not around it.
Many schools welcome a shadow teacher in principle and then leave the parent to find one. We take that on. We meet the inclusion coordinator, agree how the shadow teacher will work in the room, what the class teacher can expect, and how the school's own special educator and counsellor stay involved.
Where a school already has a preferred way of working, we fit into it.
How it works
From brief to first day.
One point of contact from the first message to the ninety-day review.

Home
School and home, one plan.
The children who do best are the ones whose school-day support and home routine are run to the same plan. We place professionals who can do both, so the strategies that work at ten in the morning still work at seven in the evening.
A shadow teacher helps a child take part, without doing the work for them.
Questions
Questions families ask
What is a shadow teacher?+
A shadow teacher, sometimes called a learning-support assistant or one-to-one aide, supports a child with additional needs inside the classroom: helping them follow instructions, stay regulated, take part, and keep up, without doing the work for them.
Does the school have to agree?+
Yes. A shadow teacher enters the school at the school's invitation and works to its inclusion policy. We speak to the inclusion coordinator or principal and settle the arrangement in writing before placement.
Shadow teacher or special educator?+
A shadow teacher works the school day. A special educator leads structured learning and routine at home. Many families want one professional for both, and we place for that where the hours allow.
Is a shadow teacher a therapist?+
No. A shadow teacher is an educational support professional. Therapy, diagnosis and treatment are delivered by separately qualified clinicians, whose plans the shadow teacher follows.
Who employs the shadow teacher?+
That is set out in writing before anything is signed. In most placements the family engages the professional directly and we supervise; where a school engages them, the school's terms apply.
