Why this approach
The parts a referral skips.
Most families in India find a shadow teacher or special educator through a WhatsApp forward and a scanned certificate. We built Special Minds to do the parts that referral skips: writing the need down, checking the person, speaking to the school, and staying involved afterwards.
Five things we do
On every placement.
First
The child comes first, on paper
Before any search we write a child-support profile with the family, and with the school and clinicians where the family consents. It is not a diagnosis and not an assessment; it is the document every later decision follows from.
Second
Every professional is checked
Qualifications confirmed with the issuing institution, identity and work history checked, at least two references spoken to, background checks where available with consent, and interviews on safeguarding and on the needs of children like yours. Families see the score and the reasoning.
Third
The school is spoken to first
A shadow teacher enters a school at the school's invitation. We speak to the inclusion coordinator before anyone is placed, and only place with the school's agreement.
Fourth
One plan across home and school
The same strategies, the same words and the same record, whether the child is in class or at the dining table, carrying the plans the child's clinicians have set.
Fifth
Supervision after placement
Reviews at one week, thirty days and ninety days, daily notes, a monthly written report, and a replacement guarantee if the placement does not work.
Where the role ends
Educators, working to the clinicians.
Special Minds introduces and supports educational professionals, and provides ABA therapy designed and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). We do not provide diagnosis, assessment for certification, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, medical treatment or psychological services, and our shadow teachers, special educators and tutors do not deliver them unless separately and appropriately qualified to do so.
Trained, and supervised
Watched doing it, not just certified.
The people who do this work are trained to a standard and watched doing it. Our practitioner programme gives shadow teachers and special educators a method, a supervisor and a clear sense of where the role ends.
