In short
Special Minds introduces vetted shadow teachers to families whose child has an ABA programme. The shadow teacher carries the behaviour analyst's plan into the classroom: the same prompts, the same rewards, the same responses to behaviour and the same way of recording what happened, so the strategies that work in therapy also work at school. The plan comes from your child's behaviour analyst, Special Minds' own BCBA if you use our ABA therapy, or the analyst you already work with; the shadow teacher follows it and reports back.
Families whose autistic child, or child with developmental delay, has an ABA programme at home, at a centre or online, and is in or starting at a mainstream or inclusive school that has agreed to a support person in class. Often the analyst wants the plan followed at school every day, and the school wants someone trained to do it consistently.

Questions
Questions
Is the shadow teacher an ABA therapist?+
No. The shadow teacher is an educator who follows your child's ABA plan in school, under the behaviour analyst's direction. Special Minds' ABA therapy is delivered by trained therapists and supervised by a BCBA; a shadow teacher supports the whole school day to that plan.
Can you provide the ABA programme as well?+
Yes. Special Minds provides ABA therapy designed and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, at home, at school, online or at a centre. If you already work with an analyst, we work to their plan instead.
Does the school have to agree?+
Yes. A shadow teacher works in school at its invitation and to its inclusion policy. We speak to the inclusion coordinator or principal's office before anyone is placed, and agree how the plan will work in class.
What if the ABA plan asks for something the school will not allow?+
We raise it with you and the analyst before placement, not on the first day. Plans can often be adapted for a classroom; where they cannot, the analyst decides what changes.
