In short
Special Minds introduces vetted special educators to families whose child is learning at home, whether through NIOS, a state open school, or a home programme while the right school is found. The special educator builds the timetable, teaches in the way your child learns, keeps written records of what has been covered, and prepares your child for NIOS exams and any accommodations granted. At the time of writing, September 2026, NIOS lists extra time and a writer among its provisions for learners with disabilities; confirm the current rules with NIOS. Placements are supervised and reviewed.
Families in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad who have taken a child out of a CBSE or ICSE school after years of struggle, families of children with severe or multiple disabilities for whom home-based education fits better, and teenagers preparing for NIOS secondary or senior secondary exams.

Questions
Questions
What exam help does NIOS allow for a child with a learning disability?+
At the time of writing, September 2026, the NIOS prospectus lists extra time of 20 minutes an hour, an amanuensis or reader, a computer on advance request, and ground-floor or separate seating, supported by a qualifying certificate. Check the current prospectus and apply through the Regional Centre.
Can a special educator run homeschooling on their own?+
They can run the teaching day. The family stays responsible for the route itself: NIOS registration, subject choices and exam applications. We agree in writing who does what, and the special educator keeps the records.
Will my child lose contact with other children?+
It is the cost families most often underestimate. A good home programme plans for it: clubs, sport, classes outside the home and regular time with children of the same age. The special educator can help build that into the week.
Can my child go back to school later?+
Some families treat home learning as a stage rather than a final choice. The special educator keeps records and targets that a school can read, which makes a return easier to discuss with an admissions team.
