Reinforcement
In ABA, anything that follows a behaviour and makes it more likely to happen again: praise, a turn with a favourite toy, a break, or simply getting what the child asked for. It is decided by what works for this child, not by what adults assume is a treat.
A reinforcer is given after the behaviour; a bribe is offered during a struggle to end it. Good programmes move from added rewards towards natural ones, such as the fun of the game itself.
