A family home in Mumbai

Shadow teachers and special educators in Bandra.

Shadow teachers, special educators and remedial tutors for families in Bandra West and East, placed with the school's agreement and supervised after the first day.

Bandra, Mumbai

Bandra families tend to know exactly what they want: a shadow teacher who is at the school gate every morning, and ideally the same person at the dining table in the afternoon. Many live in the lanes off Hill Road, Carter Road and Pali Hill, or in the older housing societies of Bandra East, with grandparents and a helper sharing the day. We introduce shadow teachers, special educators and remedial tutors to families here after verifying qualifications, speaking to references and interviewing each candidate twice. The school is contacted before anyone is placed, and the placement is reviewed at one week, thirty days and ninety days, with daily notes and a monthly written report.

Children in Bandra attend a mix of long-established ICSE schools, several run by Catholic trusts, and state board schools, with CBSE, IB and Cambridge schools a short drive away in Bandra Kurla Complex and Santacruz. For a shadow teacher this means very different classrooms: a large ICSE class with a fixed syllabus, or a smaller IB class built on inquiry and group work. Exam arrangements differ too. At the time of writing, September 2026, CISCE gives compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour, while Cambridge and the IB ask for professional evidence with standardised scores rather than a disability certificate. Confirm the current rules with the school.

The commute and the languages.

Bandra is compact on a map and slow in practice. Linking Road, SV Road and the approaches to the Sea Link and the Western Express Highway back up at school hours, and the drive from Bandra East to a school in Bandra West can take far longer than the distance suggests. Many practitioners travel in on the Western line from the northern suburbs, so a school within reach of the station is easier to staff for a full year. Where one person covers school in the morning and a home session in the afternoon, we look for someone whose route home runs through Bandra rather than away from it.

English is the working language in most Bandra homes, alongside Hindi, Marathi and, in many families, Konkani, Gujarati or Urdu. Some grandparents speak mainly one of these. If the child hears more than one language at home, say so in the brief: a special educator who can follow what a grandparent says to the child, even if sessions run in English, keeps the plan consistent across the day.

How a placement works

Questions from Bandra families

Can a shadow teacher travel from the western suburbs to a school in Bandra every day?+

Yes, and many do. Practitioners living along the Western line, from Santacruz up to Borivali, often reach Bandra more reliably by train than by road. When we shortlist, we ask each candidate about their route and timing for the whole year, not just the first week, because a long commute is a common reason placements end early.

Will an ICSE school in Bandra let a shadow teacher into the classroom?+

Many will, but each school decides for itself, and some set conditions, such as meeting the candidate first or limiting the shadow teacher to certain periods. We contact the school before placing anyone and place a shadow teacher only with the school's agreement, so those conditions are known before the family signs.

Can the same person do school hours and an afternoon session at home in Bandra?+

Often, yes. A combined role works best when the school and home are both in Bandra or Khar, so the gap between them is short. We write both parts into the brief so the candidate knows the full day, and the thirty-day and ninety-day reviews check whether the afternoon work is still sustainable.
