A family home in Thane

Shadow teachers and special educators in Naupada.

Shadow teachers, special educators and remedial tutors for families in Naupada, the older centre of Thane West beside the station.

Naupada, Thane

Naupada is part of Thane West's older centre, a short walk from Thane station, with long-standing cooperative housing societies, busy market streets such as Gokhale Road and Ram Maruti Road, and Talao Pali lake close by. Many families have lived in Thane for generations, often with grandparents in the same flat or the same building, and Marathi is the language of much of daily life. A child here may attend the school a parent went to. Special Minds introduces vetted shadow teachers, special educators and remedial tutors to families in Naupada. We verify qualifications with the issuing institution, speak to at least two references and interview every candidate twice. The school is contacted before any shadow teacher is placed, and each placement is reviewed at one week, thirty days and ninety days, with daily notes and a monthly written report.

Naupada and the streets around it have long-established Maharashtra state board schools in Marathi and English medium, alongside CBSE and ICSE schools, and some children travel to newer schools on Ghodbunder Road. Older schools may have taught children with additional needs for years without ever having a shadow teacher in class, so we speak to the school first. At the time of writing, October 2026, the state board's 2018 Government Resolution gives a student with a learning disability 20 minutes extra per hour, a calculator in Class 10 and 12 for certain subjects, and an oral exam in place of practicals, on a medical certificate. Confirm the current rules with the school.

The commute and the languages.

Naupada is one of the easiest parts of Thane to reach. Thane station, on the Central line and the Trans-Harbour line, is close by, so practitioners from Mulund, Kalwa, Dombivli, Kalyan or Airoli can come by train and walk the rest. The catch is the station area itself, whose streets are crowded at peak hours, and morning trains on the Central line are packed. Inside Naupada, distances to schools are short, so a combined school-and-home role is often realistic. For a full academic year, a practitioner on a direct train line with a short walk at the end tends to last.

Marathi is the main home language for many Naupada families, often with Hindi and English, and Gujarati is common in some households. Grandparents may speak only Marathi with the child. Where the school teaches in Marathi or the family speaks it at home, a professional who works comfortably in Marathi makes daily notes and routines easier to share. Marathi-speaking candidates are usually available in Thane.

How a placement works

Questions from Naupada families

Our child is in a Marathi-medium school in Naupada. Can the shadow teacher work in Marathi?+

Usually. Thane has a good pool of teachers and educators who work in Marathi, so it is one of the easier languages to find here. The brief records the medium of instruction, and the interview checks that the candidate can follow lessons in it and write daily notes in Marathi if you want them.

Can a practitioner from Kalyan or Dombivli work in Naupada?+

Yes, and many do. The Central line runs direct to Thane, and Naupada is a short walk from the station. Morning trains are crowded, so we ask each candidate how they manage the trip now, and how they would manage it through the monsoon, before shortlisting them.

Grandparents look after our child after school. Can the special educator work with them?+

Yes. The child-support profile is written with the family, including grandparents who care for the child. The special educator explains each routine to them, in Marathi where possible, so the child meets the same approach from every adult in the day.
