Alkapuri, Vadodara

Alkapuri is one of Vadodara's established central neighbourhoods, just west of the railway station, with bungalows, apartment buildings and the shops of RC Dutt Road, and Race Course Circle close by. Many families have lived here for decades, often with grandparents in the house, and parents work in the professions, family businesses or the engineering, chemical and pharmaceutical firms nearby. Online remedial tutoring with a vetted tutor is available now. A shadow teacher or special educator in person is arranged on request, where we can find and verify the right professional nearby, and we say plainly whether we can before you commit. Qualifications are verified with the issuing institution, at least two references are spoken to and each candidate is interviewed twice. We contact the school before a shadow teacher is placed, with reviews at one week, thirty days and ninety days, daily notes and a monthly written report.

Children from Alkapuri attend CBSE schools in the central and western parts of the city, Gujarat board schools in English or Gujarati medium, some ICSE schools and a small number of international programmes. Schools here vary in how used they are to an outside professional in class, and each decides for itself whether a shadow teacher may join a lesson. At the time of writing, October 2026, CBSE requests for exam concessions go through its online CWSN portal with the school's list of candidates, and nothing can be added after the deadline, while the Gujarat board gives SSC and HSC candidates with certified disabilities concessions such as extra time and a writer, applied for by the school under its current notification. Confirm the current rules with the school.

The commute and the languages.

Alkapuri is central and fairly compact, which helps. The slow points are RC Dutt Road, Race Course Circle and the crossings over the railway line towards Sayajigunj and the east of the city, all busy at school and office hours. Most practitioners travel by two-wheeler or auto, and trips across Vadodara are shorter than in Ahmedabad or Surat, so someone living in Akota, Sayajigunj or Fatehgunj can often keep up an in-person arrangement for a full year. We still check the route at the hour the child's day begins. For a child who can work on a screen, online remedial tutoring avoids the trip altogether.

Gujarati is the everyday language in most Alkapuri homes, with Hindi and English alongside it. Vadodara's long Marathi connection, from the years of Gaekwad rule, means some families speak Marathi at home, and others came from other states for work. A child may speak Gujarati with grandparents, Marathi with another relative and English at school. Name each language in the brief, and say which one the child reads most comfortably, so the tutor plans around it.

Questions from Alkapuri families

Can we get a shadow teacher in person for a school near Alkapuri, and how quickly?+

Possibly. In Vadodara we arrange shadow teachers and special educators on request, so it depends on finding and verifying the right professional within reach of the school. Because we do not place here routinely, the search usually takes longer than in the cities where we do, and the checks are not shortened. We tell you plainly whether we can staff it before you commit, and give a start date only once the school has agreed.

Our child's grandparents speak Marathi at home. Can the tutor work in Marathi?+

English always, and Marathi, Gujarati or Hindi where the candidate pool allows. Online tutoring widens that pool, because the tutor need not live in Vadodara. Tell us in the brief which language your child reads and writes at school, because that is the language the reading work has to be in.

Will a school near Race Course allow an outside shadow teacher?+

Each school decides for itself, and some set conditions, such as meeting the candidate first or limiting the role to certain lessons. If we can staff an in-person arrangement, we contact the school before anyone is placed and agree the role with the class teacher. A shadow teacher is placed only with the school's agreement.
