Shadow teachers and special educators in Adyar.

Adyar, on the south bank of the Adyar river, is one of Chennai's established residential neighbourhoods, with quiet streets of independent houses, older apartment blocks and families who have often lived in south Chennai for generations. Many parents here are professionals, academics or in business, and extended family is often close by. Families frequently come to us with an assessment report and a school that has agreed in principle. We introduce shadow teachers, special educators and remedial tutors to Adyar families, verify qualifications with the issuing institution, speak to references, and contact the school before a shadow teacher is placed.

Adyar families use a wide mix: long-established matriculation and state board schools, CBSE schools, and IGCSE and IB schools in Adyar and further along OMR and ECR. For a Tamil Nadu state board student, at the time of writing (September 2026), G.O. (Ms) No. 62 of 2022 lists concessions for dyslexia, including exemption from one language paper and compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour, applied for through the head teacher with a medical certificate.
