Special needs support in Delhi.
Shadow teachers, special educators and remedial tutors for families across Delhi, with the same support in Gurugram and Noida next door.
Delhi
Delhi is where many of our Delhi NCR families send their children to school, or where they cross into each day from Gurugram, Noida or Faridabad. South Delhi has many of the city's established CBSE schools, along with some IB programmes, and Dwarka in the south-west has a large number of schools of its own. Families here often already have a developmental paediatrician, a therapist and a school counsellor, each working separately and rarely speaking to one another. What they want is one professional who works with all of them and keeps the plan the same at school and at home. Special Minds introduces vetted shadow teachers, special educators and remedial tutors to families across Delhi, and speaks to the school before a shadow teacher is placed.

Schools and boards.
Almost every school our Delhi families use is affiliated to CBSE, as are most of the city's government schools. At the time of writing (September 2026), CBSE's concessions for learning disability and autism include a scribe or reader, 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour, and one compulsory language in place of two. The school enters a child's needs on CBSE's portal together with the List of Candidates, which for the 2027 exams closes on 21 October 2026, and concessions are not considered after that. A smaller number of Delhi schools follow ICSE, IB or Cambridge, each with its own rules. Where a school follows any other board, that board publishes its own rules; confirm them with the school.
Hindi and English carry most Delhi classrooms, and many homes also speak Punjabi, Urdu or a language from another state. From Class IX in 2026-27, CBSE requires a third language, assessed within the school, and its curriculum allows students with a certified learning disability to be exempted from the second and third languages under its exam bye-laws. For a child with dyslexia in both Hindi and English, ask the school early how that exemption is applied.

Public support and paperwork.
A Delhi family applies for a disability certificate and UDID card on the national portal, swavlambancard.gov.in, to the medical authority notified for its district or to a hospital already treating the child. Since October 2024 the rule is that the certificate and card are issued within three months where a disability is diagnosed. A certificate below 40 per cent is still a certificate, and a central advisory of July 2024 says it should not be refused. The State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities for Delhi can inquire into a complaint that a child's rights under the RPwD Act were denied. Government schools receive inclusive education support under Samagra Shiksha, and District Early Intervention Centres at district hospitals take parent referrals for young children. This is the position at the time of writing (September 2026); confirm it before you apply.

Questions from families in Delhi
My child is in Class 10 at a Delhi CBSE school. Is it too late to ask for a scribe?+
Possibly not, but time is short. For the 2027 board exams, the school enters a child's needs on CBSE's portal with the List of Candidates, which closes on 21 October 2026, and CBSE does not consider concessions after that. Speak to the school now and ask what evidence it needs.
Does my child need a UDID card for CBSE exam concessions in Delhi?+
Not as a rule. CBSE's 2019 circular accepts a certificate from a government hospital, a recognised national institute, or a practitioner or organisation registered with the RCI or the government, and it does not mention a UDID card. The school uploads the document on the portal, so check what your school asks for.
Can a shadow teacher work at a Dwarka school if we live in Gurugram?+
Yes, if the school agrees to a shadow teacher. Dwarka sits close to Gurugram across the state border, and many professionals travel between the two. We match on the route the shadow teacher will make at school hours as well as on skills, and we contact the school before anyone starts.
Can a Delhi school refuse admission because my child has autism?+
The RPwD Act asks recognised schools to admit children with disabilities without discrimination, and the RTE Act bars screening at admission for children aged 6 to 14. A refusal can be raised with the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. This is information, not legal advice; for a dispute, take advice.
