Telangana

Hyderabad is our in-person city in Telangana, and in practice it has two school maps. The older one runs through Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Secunderabad, with long-established schools. The newer one sits in the west, around Gachibowli, Kondapur and Kokapet, where international schools have grown up alongside the technology offices. A family may live on one side and work on the other. Telangana's own board sets out its exam concessions category by category, with different provisions for learning disability, autism and intellectual disability, which makes the certificate category matter. Schools and boards.

The Board of Secondary Education, Telangana runs the SSC exam in Class 10. At the time of writing (September 2026), a 2022 government order sets out concessions category by category. A student with a specific learning disability may be exempted from one of the three languages, has certain grammar and punctuation errors ignored, can have 20 minutes per hour of extra time or a scribe, and passes at 20 marks rather than 35. A computer is not permitted for learning disability or autism. The board has published its application form for the March 2027 exams. Hyderabad also has many CBSE and ICSE schools, and IB and Cambridge schools in the west of the city. Confirm the current rules with the school.

Telugu is the state language, and Urdu and Hindi are widely spoken in Hyderabad. SSC students take three languages, so a child may learn Telugu, Hindi and English at school while the family speaks Urdu, Tamil or Marathi at home. For a child with a speech delay or dyslexia, that is several sound systems and scripts at once. An SSC student with a certified learning disability may drop one language; in CBSE or ICSE schools, that board's own exemption applies.

Public support and paperwork.

In Telangana, as elsewhere, a disability certificate and UDID card come only through swavlambancard.gov.in, from medical authorities the state notifies. For SSC concessions, the board asks for a disability certificate from a government hospital, with the original and a copy attested by a Gazetted Officer, and the category must be entered on the SSC application form. The board's 2022 procedure has parents apply through the school by 7 July, and the school forwards the request to the District Educational Officer. The State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities can inquire into a complaint. Government and aided schools draw on Samagra Shiksha, and District Early Intervention Centres take parent referrals. This is the position at the time of writing (September 2026); confirm the dates for 2027 with the school.

Questions from families in Telangana

Does the Telangana SSC board lower the pass mark for a child with dyslexia?+

Yes, at the time of writing. The 2022 government order lowers the pass mark from 35 to 20 in all subjects for a student with a specific learning disability, and to 10 for autism and intellectual disability. The category must be entered on the SSC application form, so raise it with the school early.

Can my child with a learning disability write the Telangana SSC exam on a laptop?+

Not under the current order. It allows a computer only for certain other categories, not for learning disability or autism, and even then only with the permission of the Director of Government Examinations. A scribe and 20 minutes per hour of extra time are available instead.

Can a shadow teacher travel from Secunderabad to a school in Gachibowli?+

It is a long cross-city route, and at school hours it can take far longer than the distance suggests. We would rather introduce someone who lives nearer the school, in Kondapur or Madhapur for example, and we speak to the school before anyone is placed.

We live in Warangal. Can our child get support?+

Online remedial tutoring, yes, with a vetted tutor working to a written plan and sending a monthly report, in English and in Telugu or Hindi where the candidate pool allows. Shadow teachers and home special educators are introduced in person in Hyderabad only.
